Campaigns
The two main events of the year are Freshers' Fortnight and College Week.
Freshers' Fortnight is run in late September for the benefit of first year students in NUI Galway, with the aim of getting them involved early in University life through fun activities. However, older students have been known to get involved too!
SHAG Week SHAG Week Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance Week is an annual event.

Life Skills
The Life Skills Programme run by the Students' Union offers a chance to further your development outside of the academic world through classes in areas such as: First Aid, Sign Language, Lifesaving and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. These classes are provided at a reduced rate giving you a chance to learn a new skill which, in some cases, could save someone's life. This is also a great chance to broaden your CV. This programme is supported with funding from the Student Projects Fund.
Volunteering
We all need a little help from time to time and Volunteering can be very rewarding. You learn new skills, challenge yourself, meet new people and add the experience to your CV. Check out our Volunteering page for various options.

Societies
We have profiled all 100 societies in NUI Galway, giving a short description of what each society does during the year. While all societies have a recreational component many offer the opportunity to travel, learn new skills and to represent the University or country at competitions in Ireland and abroad. Most of all, societies are a great way to make friends, find people who share your interests and broaden your life skills.
